Building official

Building Official Duties:

  • Approve all new construction and remodeling.

  • Review building plans to ensure compliance with 2018 International Building Codes, 2020 International Electrical Codes and square footage requirements.

  • Inspect on-going construction and upon completion of building issue a final inspection.

  • Issue use and occupancy permits for commercial and industrial buildings upon occupancy.

 Code Enforcement Duties:

  • Enforce Town of Byhalia Ordinances.

  • Identify areas in violation of ordinances and work with property owner to remove or correct violations.

 Planner Duties:

  • Assist developers and investors interested in developing land in the Town of Byhalia.

  • Work with developers during application process.

  • Present applications to Planning Commission and Board of Aldermen.

Storm Water/Flood Plan Coordinator:

  • Determine new or existing structures for compliance with flood plans.

  • Assist property owners with any support needed to obtain flood insurance.

PLANNING COMMISSION

The Planning Commission of the Town of Byhalia consists of SIX members: a Commission Chairman and five Commission members. This Commission is appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Byhalia.

The commission of the members’ term of office shall be concurrent with the term of office held by the aldermen.

Town of Byhalia General Development Plan

The Town of Byhalia General Development outlines the appointment of the Commission, the authority, the meetings, the jurisdiction and appeals. This plan is an excellent plan for the future of our community. Its effectiveness is entirely dependent on implementation of the recommendations provided. This plan was adopted April 2009 and includes the plans set forth to respond to new growth and development, including our Development Code, Subdivision Regulations, Design Standards and Preservation Ordinance.
